Free mockups. Website launched! SEO.

I have been excited to share what’s been happening the past few weeks. Client work has died down slightly, which has been great cause it’s given me time to work on my business rather than in my business.

Here’s what I’ve been up to:

I was on the Orthogonal podcast talking about branding. You can listen to it here (Episodes 83 and 84).

I launched my rebranded website for my business, Marks and Maker!

I had been wanting to update my brand and site for a while now. My previous design wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t consistently attracting the type of clients who could afford me. I knew that if I wanted to raise my prices then my branding and messaging needed to change. I want clients coming to my site thinking “I’m not sure I can afford them.”

So the site is up, YAY! But there are still so many little things I need to work on. One in particular, I realized that I didn’t name any of my images correctly for SEO. Whoops. So you know what’s on next week’s list? Yep, renaming allllll the images on my site. Fun! :|

Speaking of renaming all my images, here are two naming conventions I learned for good SEO. (If you were in the Pro Call this week, this will be old news to you):

Here they are:

Company-Name-City-what-you-want-to-be-known-for.png (each word separated by a dash)
Example: Marks-and-Maker-Anaheim-branding-logo-design.png

OR

Project-Name-Business-Name-Category-Number.png
Example: Cleankin-Marks-and-Maker-branding-1.png

I plan on using them both throughout my site depending on the type of image. (Side note, I’ll also be using https://tinypng.com to make my image sizes smaller.) Thanks for the tip, fellow Pro Group member Rahul Bhogal from http://www.madebynothing.com

By the way, I mentioned on Instagram that I took a few extra shots of some business cards when photographing things for my case studies and I want to give them to you! Not only that, Miguel Sanchez graciously put in the smart objects. Thanks Miguel!

That’s it for now. I hope you were able to take away at least one thing this week that will help you. Next week, I will be sharing more about the books I’ve been reading that have made a massive difference in my business. A few of them you can even download for free.

Happy Friday!
Melinda
